Summary: Making Heart Magnets for parent gifts.

Description:

This activity can be used as a Valentine gift or Mothers Day gift.  Cut out heart shapes from poster board.  Give the children an assortment of items to decorate the hearts - very tiny beads, small buttons, foam shapes in pink, red, white.

  • First have children put self stick foam shapes onto the hearts.
  • Give them glue bottles, and let them apply glue to the heart shapes that are on top.
  • Using a paint brush, instruct the children to spread the glue all over the heart shape.
  • Give them the buttons.  It is helpful to give them a small cup with about 5-6 buttons so that they do not add too many, making the hearts too heavy.
  • Then give them very tiny beads or glitter, in a small cup, and let them sprinkle it on the top.
  • When the hearts dry, an adult can apply watered down glue with a small brush to seal the beads.  You may also apply glue to the back of the heart to help preserve it.
  • When the hearts are completely dry, glue a small round magnet to the back of heart.  It  makes a lovely refrigerator magnet!
  • You may also put a sticker on the back that says, Happy Valentines Day - and the year.  It makes a nice memento!
  • Even the three year olds were successful doing this project.  They all look very pretty!
  • Please see attached photo.
