Description:
On Ground Hog Day, it is fun to do some shadow activities! Here are a few:
Shadow Dancing - If it is a sunny day, let the children shadow dance! Ask them to dance, and observe how their bodies move. We like to chase our shadows! I bet you cannot get away from your shadow!
Copy various shapes on a copy machine. The shapes will look black like a shadow. Place the "shadows" on a table with the items that you copied. Encourage the children to match the shadows with the objects!
Using a lamp without a shade, or an over head projector, and a sheet or light colored wall, provide a bin of small items. Let the children take turns holding the objects near, but not too close the the lamp - always have adult supervision. Be sure that the light source is low enough to be behind something, so that the other children cannot see the item being held. As a child holds up the object, the other children guess what the items is by looking at its silhouette! Continue until each child has had a turn. Great fun!
Hopefully the ground hog did not see his shadow! I am ready for SPRING!
